Default b20b/z

the difference between the 2 is that the b20b has lower compression due too the pistons correct? ls stuff will work with this motor, except pistons right?

not sure about the differences in compression. try Honda, Acura Tech Website, tutorials, tuning and HOW-TO's. Drag racing, street racing, road racing - C-speedracing.com n play with the compression ratio calc to figure that out if u want. other than that the b20 and ls motors share identical cranks and rods.

is the b20b with the tall manifold the higher compression one? All Japanese Engines and Hmotorsonline both only sell b20b's. hmotors have both, but all jap said the they have the tall manifold and dont know if its the highercompression.

the hi compression one is the b20z (not b20zc from an old prelude)made in 99 and 00
why dont you ask them to check out the engine codes for you

b20z comes from the 99-01 usdm crv's witch yeilds the higher compression
b20b comes in the jdm crv's with lower compression( tall manifold )

i would go with a b20z cause the compression aspect as well as they are easier and cheaper to find here in the states.

HOWEVER, SOME b20b's come with the p8r heads witch are significantly better then the regular pr4 heads.

ANd yes you are correct, all parts are interchangable off a ls, minus the pistons.

Rods are the same, crank, manifold patterns etc etc.

WIth the usdm b20's they have a crappy intake manfold but a BIG throttle body. I would buy a b20z put on a newer LS intake manifold with the b20z Throttle body, it would be a cheap easy setup.

i thought that both JDM engines were stampped B20B, '95.5-00, and that the difference was in the later japanese model's PHK pistons (allthough some had the p3f pistons), the ones that are in the B20z and give it the higher compression ratio. i could be incorrect, as i got this info from honda tech. I also recall reading something about the 97-98 spec engines that came with 5speed and 4wd having a 9.2 c/r

in short 99-00 JDM B20B = 99-00 USDM B20Z, but some JDM b20b's have the lower compression pistons, and some 97-98 have a third option.

after re-reading this i seem a little confused.
