98 civic ex. had a bad alt so i got a new one and had my dad put it on for me. my speedo still doesn't work, it idles at about 1600 rpm, and last night on my way home all my lights went dim. inside and out. i go to start the car this morning, it started but had trouble doing so. when i had a bad alt i kept draining and recharging my battery, could i just have a bad battery? guy at autozone said it also could be a bad ground somewhere

the one that supplies the alt. with switched 12v. and on some of the newer models, run's a few things like the speedo.


always before changing an alternator, check for hot on the big wire and for switched 12 volts in the alt harness plug.
sometimes it can save you alotta time and money!
