Default How to tell what motor mounts are bad?

What would be an indication of a bad motor mount? would it feel weird in shifts .. like it was a little jerky towards the end of enagaing the gear.. Im pretty sure I have a bad mount but I have never looked for a mount before and before I go and change thenm all I would like to target the one... thanks!

I visually look at them. Look for cracks in the rubber.
Most mounts have a bolt/sleeve going horizontally through the middle.
If the rubber has a crack between the middle and outer edge, either replace it or rebuild it with polyeurethane. Mine are solid mounts that I made at my garage, and they work really good.

If the engine has a torque link (mine does), and if it is loose/cracked rubber, that will affect your shifting.

A cracked-rubber transmission mount will affect shifting, also. If you want someone to look at it, I can show you what to look for.-no charge.-Bob

also good to know: if u go with solid replacement mounts, it adds vibrations that transfer thru to the car and steering wheel so keep that in mind. some people dont mind the added vibrations and some do. just up to u.

jack up the car and apply a 2 by 4 underneath the motor mount and lower the car a little bit..just a little bit...and see from the top if that rubber is cracked or broken...lower the car just to give motor mount a little bit pressure..not to lay the whole body weight against the 2 by 4 completely....slow and nice

or just try to move the motor by hand and see if it moves excessively

i would say have somone get in your car, turn it on, put it in first gear, and have them let the cluth out enough to put tourqe on the motor mounts. if you have a bad one you will see a lot of movement. its realtivly easy to see.

good luck man.

Check for new rising dents in the hood, that's how I found out mine broke.
