Default not making any more power in vtec?

i have a gsr with 235 across the board but i didnt do a WOT compression check so it might be a lil higher. but it does switch over to vtec i can hear the difference but the difference cant be felt. im thinking maybe the motor is time for a rebuild but im going to do a WOT compression tommorow. it does have adjustable cam gears on them and there a little off. one cam(intake is advance between the 0 degrees and the 1st mark and the exhaust is retarded between 0 degree and the next mark, but there on stock cams, other than that the head and block are stock and it has 2.25 exhaust with the Cat still there.

plugged cat, maybe. Your compression is fine. The sound of vtec is the sound of more air and bigger explosions. More air (and the more fuel that goes along with it) and bigger explosions make the engine run stronger, unless some other factor is choking it out, such as an exhause resrtiction.
By the way, what is your vtec crossover rpm?

set that high you should definatly feel it....its a lil bit too high for a stock setup i think....but i dunno how its tuned....did this just start happening or has it been that way since you bought it?...what about the secondaries? are they still there? if its always been this way it could be a fucked up map...if it just started doing it it could be plugged cat like mentioned above or possibly a timing issue...like the timing not advancing properly (dizzy)...does it missfire at all in the higher rpms?..hell it could even be a fuel issue....im pretty sure that it dumps more fuel in vtec...and if somthing in the fuel system is fucked it wont get the fuel it needs.......i need either a better discription of whats happening or i need to drive it.

when vtec hits it does smoke black (runs rich) it also has an ABES intake manifold...so no secondaries. as for the missing it at higher rpms sometime u can feel a slight miss/stutter. well the car used to be a friend of mines but when he had hard times i bought it from him and when it was first together it used to ride out! now on the highway i get taken out by d series...i have used a stock p72 and it seems to act the same way. when my boy had it it had a p30 maybe its because the cams are slightly off but i didnt think being that little bit off it would really affect it. or maybe it is the cat considering the original odemeter has 190,xxx miles and its still the stock cat. the ecu i have now is the map of a type-r except the x-over is at 5400, its a friends ecu cause the one i had had the vtec xover at 5800 and that made it seem worse.

also i just noticed that it looks like there was an oil pressure guage in the car before. i just noticed a brass T fitting on the back of the block off of the oil sending unit, it has a vinyl yubing into the firewall but wa electrical taped at the end, could this possible lower oil pressure just enough to open vtec but not actually enguage it?

No, although you should get rid of that thing if you're not using it. Electrical tape and heat don't go well together.

It sounds like you should start with a retune, MTBER or 60-1EK can help you here.
