maybe a faulty main realy. Start the car up let it idle and tap on the main relay a few times try to get it to ack up. Or you can have someone actually test the relay with a relay tester.

is this a auto ?

dont't think it is the mqain relay caus eif it initially does not clicl it would not start and once openo or closed i do not think it will go back to its previous stage unless there is like a big power surge or something. i would look into ot being a batterty connection issue also a fuse connection issue also.
