Hooking up vtec
Ok my friend JDMPunk has a problem. He runs a circle track crx at eastbay and has recently put in a d16z6. Thats a single cam for the retards. He wants to have vtec kick in around 5500, every little bit helps in racing right? Here is the situation. He wants to keep obd0 because of the rules. He can not switch to obd1, he can not chip his ecu. Will the msd rpm activated switch or something similar enable vtec without the use of the oil pressure switch? Will he notice a difference when using a pr4 ecu? If he uses a pr3 how can he disble the knock sensor to make vtec work? He has a race this Saturday and has not been able to get on here to do work and I saw his thread was closed. Please help the little guy out.

well if he just has an switch for vtec it might hurt cause he wont have the right amount of fuel for when vtec engages. so it would probably be better to just not run vtec cause it will probably bog the car down if anything
Thats what I was thinking of doing nice simple switch. He's using a pr4 (LS) ecu which makes it run a little rich as it is, so I figured that a higher intake cam will make it a little leaner and actually help it, could be wrong though. Doesn't single cam vtec jsut run intake cam? Thanks for the input guys.

we race at eastbay also, and you have to be careful of what you do about the rules they state that the car you run must have the engine and componets that is ORIGINAL to that year and model car, i know of a few guys that did engine swaps and put ls dual cam motors in there car that the track is going to looking at the first race night , its very compettive out there ,,but the only way to keep it fair is to crack down on the guys that are trying to over power the stock class which it is intended for (beginner front wheel drive stock cars) but the answer to one of you questions about the vtec is i have seen guys leave the stock wiring harness and install a push button or switch to give power to the vtec solenoid once the green flag drops..that energizes the vtec and you run wide open in second gear anyway... hope this helps you lmk ...
