You need LS pistons. The rod is a different width than the gsr

Get pistons for a gsr at whatever bore and compression you want. The piston saddle on forged vtec pistons is wide enough for ls rods. If you used a piston for a ls head the valve reliefs might not be wide enough.

If you have LS rods, the piston will be either LS or universal forged with no distinction but bore size. If a the piston manugacturer shows a gsr part and an ls part, it would be a difference for the rod width, most likely, as all aftermarket forged pistons have big valve pockets. Just check with the piston maker.

I was wondering the same thing, except wasnt going boost, would type-r pistons fit on the LS rods and in the GSR block without much modifying?

The LS rods are too wide for the type r piston. The usual fix is machining off a bit of the rod small end to narrow it. I've never done this, but if I did, I would want to be exact, so as to keep the weight of the small ends the same on all four.
