Default Help!!! This idle is driving me nuts!

Ok. So after my car warms up and I drive it for a bit; when I come to a stop my rpms bounce from about 1000 to 1500 rpms. Its terrible! I got a tip that it was my "idle-air control valve" so I got one of those from my friend (a used one) and it kept doing the same thing. He said he was pretty sure that the idle-air control valve he gave me was good. So I have no idea. Also when I put on the supposedly "good" valve I also cleaned up my "f.i.t. valve" (fast-idle-throttle i think). And then I made sure that the plastic circular piece inside of the f.i.t. valve was screwed down tight. But still my rpms bounce... Sigh... Should I jus pay $160 for a brand new idle-air valve or could it be something else? Help... Please... I have a head-ache...

Check the adjustment screw on the TB, While the car is running turn it either direction and that will probably help it out. There is another adjustment screw that you can adjust if that one doesnt help, but its a MoFo to get to.

Good luck.

It is on the bottom side of the TB. Its actually a Nut. I believe its an 8mm. And there is an allen head in the middle that adjusts it. The nut just keeps it locked into place. Its a Bitch to adjust. Good Luck.

OK try this if you can get your hands on a propane torch. Take the torch but DONT light it just let the propane flow out and while the car is on manuever it between the intake manifold and the head and run the unlite torch along the gasket. If there is a gasket leak then it will idle higher if not then nothing should happen. I have the same problem you have. A leak between the head and the manifold could be the problem.
