Default Turbo GSR ECU Question...

so, my buddy has a '94 LS teg with a B18C1, stock internals, and this stuff installed/operating currently:
-T4 turbo
-P28 ECU (chipped, presumably)
-VAFC (dyno tuned)
-missing link

and the car started doing some weird hesitation-under-30%-or-more throttle thing, and we traced it back to the missing link.

so, being the typical broke college student he is, he wants to find another missing link, throw it on, and call it a day.

i am trying to convince him to get the system done right, and im thinking that the best idea is a 3-bar MAP sensor, with a crome tuned chip for the P28...
so he would be looking at $100 ish for the MAP sensor plus tuning, which varies...

so, what i want to know is, are there any options im leaving out?

thanks in advance for any ideas/opinions/suggestions.

Stock Map sensor is good for 11psi, if he wants to run more than 11 a Motorola 2.5 bar is a better sensor that also happens to be cheaper. Get some 450cc or bigger injectors and then tune.

A missing link will probably end up resulting in a cracked ring land which is way more expensive in the long run.

he is supposedly only running 6psi (but i doubt that is overly accurate, considering the ghetto-ness of his setup)

already has 390 cc injectors ( i think ? ) but they are upgraded, and since he's low on boost i think they're ok...

as for the stock MAP being good to 11 psi, does that mean that it would actually run better with just the OEM MAP than with the missing link?

and finally, you are dead-on about cracked ring-lands, im sure you remember me calling you on his behalf on thanksgiving day looking for GSR piston/rods (so yea, engine has like 3k miles on it since OE rebuild)

thanks kevin

I would leave the stock MAP sensor and if he has 390cc Injectors already I would disconnect the V-AFC very carefully and just get the car tuned ..

Leave the boost to 8-10psi and pay to have the car street tuned . He's looking at around 250 for street tunning services if he already has the above mention chipped p28 and the injectors . I would recomend a Walbro 255lph fuel pump as well for saftey if he does not already have one ..

ok, thanks again.

my main concern, as i stated in the first post, was the MAP sensor thing... i didnt think stockers could do any positive pressure, esp 11 psi...

Considering he is a baller on a budget, he should probably keep it under 11 psi on the stock map sensor

He will be fine with the stock map sensor. Stop modding the car and finish college I say.
