Blue material on brake pads

Blue material on brake pads

I have been studying brake pad material lately,

Some pads have a couple stripes of blue material
on the pads wearing surface, some are totally
coated with the blue stuff on the wearing surface,
and some pads have no blue material at all.

Does anyone know for sure what that material is,
and specifically what it is supposed to do? -Bob

Don't know for sure but my best guess is it is something that reduces dust.

Its just a small amount for faster and quiter break in... Bendix was the first to use it, and since then others have seen the benefits and copied.... It cuts break in time pretty much in half...
