Can not get the car to start at all!!!!! Dont know how to put the car in time!! Ive got spark, and gas, When I turn the car over it backfires out of the intake!
Need Some help Here need to get this car running so i can drive it!!!! Checked the fireing order on the spark plugs and im fine there. So i must have the head out of time! How the hell do you time it???? Check all over the internet and no help!!!!

your '89 DX should be some variation of a SOHC D15/16, so this is the closest thing I have, its for a '96-'00 Y7 motor, but it should be the same.
lmk if u have something extremely different, and i will find some better pics.
if you save em, you can open em up on your computer and they will be bigger/higher quality.

Well there is no white mark on the crank pulley. The cam part is right i found that on the internet just not the crank pulley.
The motor is a D15, I found 3 lines close together on the crank, Also found one line bout an inch maybe less away from the 3 lines.
Oh and is it true that the crank spins 2 times to the cams 1??? So maybe i have the timing 180 degrees off??? man i need to figure this out!!
And i dont want to have to take the crank pulley off!! Ive heard its horrible to get off!

ok your's is a lil diff from skunk2's pic of the cam gear. if you line up the 2 marks like in his pic, you'll notice a 3rd mark on the cam gear that will be pointing down to about the 7or 8 oclock position (if you have the cam on #1 cyl. #4 cyl will have it in 2 or 3 oclock position!) .
when you have the cam 0n #1 cyl. , you'll see a mark on the plastic cover below the cam gear to line this 3rd line up with. that's the right marks to line up on your motor. when it's lined up right, the marks on skunk2's pic will be turned back 1 tooth counterclockwize from how they are in his pic.

There is no mark on the plastic cover below the cam gear. I read on the internet that mark is only on 1.6 engines of that year. The 1.5 says you have to line up the 2 marks on the cam even with the valve cover.
With the word UP on the cam. Pointing up.
I know that part the part i dont know is the marks on the Crank pulley.

those sites will get you in trouble sometimes! lol
1.6 and 1.5 both line up like i said on 88-91 civics.
someone may have taken the plastic backing plate that the mark is on.
or maybe you have a diff year motor. but yeah, where are you in lakeland? i can come and show ya how to line up the cam and crank if ya want me to.
oh and dont get me wrong, i'm not saying that your's cant be the type that lines up like you said, but there's alot of them that line up like i said, so ya gotta be careful!

these three marks are used for distributor timing, and the one lone mark (an inch or so away) is the crankshaft alignment mark.
so you need to find a mark on the timing belt cover (if there is one) to align with the lone CP notch, and this will put your crank at TDC for cylinder #1.
the other way to get #1 cylinder to TDC is take out the spark plug and set a long thin extension bar or piece of round bar so you can spin the crank and find TDC manually.
sorry the pics didnt help too much, i dont have a helms manual for the 88-91 civics

thats cool . Thanks for the help skunk2racing97. Ugly86integra is coming by my house to help me time it. I hope the timing is the only thing wrong with this car. If there is more wrong after the timing the car is gone!!
