Low PS fluid will cause the ps pump to "groan" and if its low enough, cause it to froth up into foam. Also be sure the line going into the pump is not kinked or damaged. If it is,this will starve the pump of fluid and can burn it out.

i was told that about the levels but its over filled and its still frothing and it just now recently started to do this, and it sounds like sand is in the pump anything that causes that?

you have a restriction somewhere within the power steering system. First I would stain the power steering fluild and check for particles or debri in the system. Check for leaks also. Around the power steering pump itself and lines. Rack etc.. Check also for any means of debri entering the system in any ways possiable like the "bellow" boots on ps rack that could be torn opened or missing.

my father looked over the lines and said a clamp was missing ('tis his car anyway) but i think there is debris in the system, also. What are some ways to remove the debris?
This is my first time dealing power steering problems so sorry if i sound Noobish.
thanks

Small cars don't need power steering. Below is an exchange I had with someone awhile back.-Bob

power steering blockoff/info for you/previous emails
I only plug them off for neatness. As you drive it, the excess fluid will drip on out, and power steering fluid does not lube the rack/pinion anyway.
On some cars I make a lightweight aluminum blockoff plate, and totally remove even the piece that the lines screw into.-Bob

now, when you say plug off the lines, do you need to have fluid in the rack still or not? and is it ok to completely plug the holes or does the air/fluid need room to move from one chamber to the next? thanks, nathan[/quote]

Cut or unscrew the four fittings at the rack, and to make it look nice, plug 'em or plastic cap them off.

is there a way to either bypass the pump and lines or just block off the ports running the power steering alltogether? i don't want to swap out my power steering rack for a manual if i can just run the lines together or something. the car is a 93 si hatch with gsr. lemme know if anyones done this. thanks.
