Default D16y8 head will it fit on d16y7 short block?

Will Vtec still work ?
I have a 96 civic ex with a d16y8 that needs a short block.
d16y7 rebuilt blocks are a lot cheaper then D16y8.
Will any other D blocks bolt to the y8 head ?

the y7 will work just fine

but keep in mind that the internals on the block are a lot weaker then the y8.... the y7 has a smaller crank, thinner rods, lower comp pistons.

i figured this all out when i was putting together a mini me a few years ago

hope that helps
