B16's all use the same intake/exhaust manifolds.

D16's all use the same intake/exhaust manifolds (for the most part).

they are not interchangeabe.

Mini-me is putting a SOHC VTEC cylinder head on a SOHC non-VTEC block, and then running it as a VTEC engine.

here is a little bit about mini-me and LS/CR/VTEC...

the SOHC VTECs are Z6 and Y8, and most will agree either of these stock motors will trump a stock block mini-me SOHC any day of the week (assuming you dont modify anything, i.e. a stock Y7 block with Y8 head, stock D15B7 block with Z6 head, etc)

the DOHC VTECs are the B16A and B18C, and although a stock block LS/VTEC is pretty close to even with a B16A, it is def inferior to any B18C. the other option is the B20 CRV block, with any DOHC VTEC head, for a 2.0L DOHC VTEC motor, just like the old prelude Si's had.

the trick about the 'frankenstein' honda motors is that if you are just buying a head, you usually have the ability to swap out some OEM pistons, then you can bump up the compression, give it a little tune, and you will run on the stock motors all day long, so it ends up being about as expensive as a swap, but performs better, and will last as long if done properly.
