Default Drivers side headlight keeps cutting off

Ok, the other day I was on my way home from work (8:30 pm) and I noticed that on comming traffic kept flashing me. I was thinking WTF? So the next stoplight I get to I look at my headlight pattern on the back of a pickup truck and notice that my drvers side headlight is out (this is in my S2000, so I got HIDs). Im thinking to myself that this is werid, so I turn my headlights off, then back on. Ok, this did the trick. Both headlights are now on. So I'm cruzing and I come to this dark part of town as I'm driving home and notice that the drivers side headlight is out again. So I turn my headlights off then back on again and they both come on. So I finally get home, get out of my car, and walk to the front of my car, while its still running and headlights on. Pretty soon my drivers side headlight turns off again. I check all the wiring and the connection going to the bulb and everything is fine but my one headlight keeps cutting out. Has anyone encountered this or a simmilar problem with their headlights? Could it be my bulb going bad? Could it be my ballast going bad? Any info on a solution to fix this problem would be greatly appereceated.

Thanks
~Clinton

sounds like the switch to me. I did have a similar problem on a civic once but, it was the plug where it pluged into the bulb. I think your problem is in the switch. Just wiggle the switch & see if it has a short.

If wiggling and shaking don't seem to help, It may be your ballast.
Any HID Ballast works the same exact way fluorescent lighting works in your kitchen.
If the ballast has a loose connection inside, Once the connections warm up...the electronics expand and drop connection until all the metal components cool off and retract back to contact.

Same reason you seem to loose cable TV more often in the winter time.
expansion and contraction in changing temperatures. (Thermal Contraction)

I would try swapping the ballasts to the other side of the vehicle.
If the problem presists.....It's your Ballast and you should start shopping around for a new one.

Good Luck Homie

Problem fixed. Found out there was a fingerprint on the HID bulb itself. I guess HID bulbs take a while to react to a fingerprint. The last time they were handeled was in June when I swapped headlights with a buddy who was trading in his car. HE swapped the bulbs... oh well. Thanks for the help Jeff. I hope all is well with you and your family, bro!

I'm glad you found the problem....However, I don't think it's the finger print that did it.
The connection on the back of the bulb may have not been turned all the way.
I've had that same issue once or twice after a while of road vibration.....especially in my case where all of my kits have been pieced together from different makes and models of HID Hardware.

The Fingerprint killing the bulb technique works like this.
The Oils from your skin sit on the thin glass and tends to insulate the heat from the bulb and keep it in one spot.
After a while the glass will weaken from the intense spot of heat and crack.
If the glass cracks...Your bulb is done for good.

You got lucky though, You know how much S2K ballasts are from the factory? Friggin Big Buku Bucks

Good Luck with the S2k.............I'm still jealouuuuussss
