How can you tell the difference between the 90-91 B18A1 and the 92-93 B18A1? I found the code saying B18A1 on my engine block but would like to know if I have that extra 10 horsepower sitting around lol...more is always better.

 

is this in a swapped car? if not.. you could tell cause they started making the da's obd1 in 92-up. If not, I don't know what to tell ya. maybe the head code? I'm pretty sure there is no difference in the bottom ends of the A1 and the B1 the difference is in the flow and combustion chambers of the heads. Correct me if I'm worng anyone. -Ben

Well what I was getting at is that there were 2 different B18A1 motors made...90-91 and 92-93. My car is swapped with the B18A1 and I do have an O2 sensor in my header (don't know if that helps any). The 2 B18A1 engines were slightly different in horsepower but not in torque. The 91-92 B18A1 put out around 140 and the 90-91 put out only 130ish....thats why I was trying to see how I can tell if my B18A1 is the 140 hp model or the 130...I'm sure its just cams which won't matter once my headwork gets done but I still would like to know for sh*ts and giggles.

 

if u have have the vtech solinoid on there that wun is gonna be faster but if they dont have vtech den i dunno

 

Nah both these models were non-vtec...I guess there is only one way to find out and that is run a vin number off my engine and see what car it comes back to...thanks though for tryin guys.

 

here is your help. first off the head will have a casing date it will be the last 2 numbers of the yearit was made. It is between the top of the cylinder head and the exhaust anifold. second of all the 90-91's had a 4-1 exhaust manifold and the 92-93 had a a 4-2-1 manifold. also the ports are bigger and it has a higher lift exhaust cam on the b18b's. that and the tune are the differances.
