Get an aluminum valve cover,
also, check 'em and tell us what your valves are set to.-Bob

He's stating you need to check the lash of your valves. Its like one might have slipped out as it wasn't torqued enough. If the lash changed enough, the top of the piston could be slapping it on the compression stroke. Have you done any maintainance on this like change timing belt and not set everything to TDC?

yeah, you may wanna take the valve cover off and check everything,
that and if you do not find anything, one of or a few of ur rocker arms could be adjusted wrong... also check all the oil holes around the rocker arms... if these holes are pluged up with gunk they will not lube the cams and rocker arms properly causing a ticking noise.

most likely, u may wanna get a flashlight and check around really slowly, and if there are puddles of oil in the head that hasnt drained out, it may be a good idea to take a screw driver and "lightly" stir through the oil pockets/puddles. there should be nothing losse of floating around in ur head.

But wait a sec.... is it a clattering noise or is it a solid click.. click.. click....
this is a difference between what i stated above... to a slightly bent valve. which could have been caused by misadjustments of the rocker arms... which when you have you valve cover off wouldnt be a bad idea to check the book for the proper adjustments and check all of the rocker arm clearances.
