Default H23 Sleeve question

Im very unfamiliar with H series, Im just wondering about the sleeves in a H23, i know its a closed dec kblock but ive been told the sleevs arent good for forged internals, just wondering if thats true and if so what id have to do to run forged internals on it.

I think it is hard to find forged internals for it. The sleeves are made out of a different material that the B,D series engines. I am not %100 percent on that though I have never messed with one personally.

h series sleeves are made from FRM material, and it eats up aftermarket pistons.

Mahle makes a piston that is compatable with it.

Stock H blocks hold alot of power, just the ring lands in the factory pistons dont hold up.

There are failures with the Mahle stuff too because not many machine shops know how to hone the cylinders properly. I recommend to sleeve all h blocks, trying to save $900 for sleeving can cause you to lose a set of pistons and all the labor for another rebuild plus the cost of new sleeves on top of that.

H22, H23 blocks(same block), have the FRM(Fiber Reinforced Metal) sleeves, as stated above. These sleeves are relatively thin, most people opt to cut these out and replace them with ductile iron sleeves, I wanna go the Mahle route, but only if I find a shop with a good reputation of doing this job successfully.

+1

Theres been this topic of discussion on Hondatech for sometime now. Some people have had good luck with the coated pistions, but in my experience they have failed. If you have an H22a1 block sleeving it is much cheaper because of the closed deck. Have a shop overbore it and press in straight sleeves. Deck it, then bore and hone for your new forged pistions. I've had this done in the past for $500-600 including the sleeves. Just dont try to ust too thick of sleeves or you will hit the waterjacket. Good luck with your build.

Weclome to the big block honda world. H series in a rexy will get down, I really miss mine. Get a shorter final drive or look into the h2b conversion. Its deffinitely worth it.

already tracked down the H2B kit, plan on running it with a Ys1 tranny with factory CTR LSD, just looking to have a nice little street car tha ti can put down fast track itmes and drive it home. Im looking into the H23 bottom end, 10:1 Mahle pistons, getting the roataing assembly balanced. so whats the deal with getting the hone right to make everything with the pistons go well?
