Question Polishing Sun Damage From Headlights.. And Plastic Moonroof?

POLISHING SUN DAMAGE FROM HEADLIGHTS.. AND PLASTIC MOONROOF?

I was reffered by a GOOD source to get 2000 grit sand paper and water. I did that some on the bad spot on my headlites. They leveled out and are not clear. What makes em clear. Do I have to compound and buff them, polish? or something else?

Also have another car with a plastic sunroof panel also in need of this treatment? What is the best process please.

If I dont have a buffer handy tommorow would plastic x be a good alternative. Does it work without buffing a lot?

No, You need a High Speed Buffer to heat up the plastic and apply the non-abrasive compound or cleaner wax to now scorned area.

Steps to cure this problem:

1) clean the headlights (soap & water)
2) using 2000 grit sandpaper and a bottle of half/half soap and water....Wet sand the whole headlight on each spot (not just the problem spots)
3) clean the headlights (soap & water)
4) Using a High Speed Buffer (2800 rpm to 3500 rpm) carefully apply a few spots of cleaner wax such as Meguires.
Hold the Buffer wheel at an angle so only 1/4 of the pad is touching the surface, Press lightly on the buffer so the pad makes a good contact with the headlight and doesn't want to roll away.
Do not let the pad sit in one area for more then 3 seconds, Otherwise you have a chance of melting the plastic lense and now your fuct.
5) After you have seen a huge difference in clearity, Apply regular wax to the headlights, Let them dry....The you can use the buffer or hand buff the wax off to get a brilliant shine and a clear headlight.

G/L with the cleaning and hope this little step by step list helps you out.

i have never used a buffer i have done about 4 or 5 of them never needed to wet sand each one for about 10 min then wipe that shit on like wax then wipe it off all mine are clear as hell but if you feel the need you can always buff later if you want

With past experiance.........If you don't buff them out and apply wax as a final coat,...You'll be doing this process again in a few Sun Blazing months.

If you sand a piece of plastic, Your creating little pores in the surface.
After a while the pores dry out(Oxidation) and collect fall out/debris, This makes the yellowing on the plastic.
If you High Speed Buff the palstic after wet sanding.....The Heat from the friction of the buffer pad and the wax seal up those pores which create a crystal clear and smooth surface.
Same idea when you Buff the clearcoat of a car...
