Unhappy Oil Pan Questione

so ive changed my oil pan gasket FOUR times now and im still leaking oil. I just finished about an 2-3 hours ago, when i tighten the nuts/bolts i go from the inside/outside in a crisscross patern, and do this three time slowly tourqing them down tight so i dont get a warp. Now I just went acouple of blocks down the street to see if i still leaking and i get out of the car and sure enough the SOB is still leaking. Should the gasket buldge out in the corner a little? or does it just take acouple of days to get a perfect seal. i used a little bit of hondabond on the blockside. need info soon before i call my local honda dealership and pay out the ass to have them do it. thanks

Sounds like maybe your not putting hondabond on the gasket. Usually I just put a nice layer all the way around ontop of the gasket. clean is key. I use this stuff called KENT to hold the gasket on the pan while I postion it on the bottom of the block. Make sure you get off all the old gasket with a blade or something to get it cleaned off. When you go to reinstall put one bolt on one side and another 10 mm on the oppisite side. Just take your time. And also are you sure your oil pan gasket it leaking and not the rear main seal? There will be alittle bit around the pan of the gasket that you will seal. Make sure also that your putting the gasket in upright postion. There is a up and down.

When you tighten it down, when you reinstall it. You will see the gasket wrap itself around the pan. Should look like this all the way around. If you wern't so far away I would help ya out, Iam not doing shit this weekend.

try calling a local honda dealership, maybe if you tell them your postion they could help you out. Tell them you don't have alot of money you just really need it fixed. Maybe they can work something out. I know I would take a little cut to get some work.

theres 2 metal rings that are built into the oil pan gasket, they go around the 2 studs closest to the flywheel, sometimes there get stuck on the stud when an old gasket is removed, therefore the new one will never seal there...just a possibility

yeah i figured that thoes things are part of the gasket,i know the gaskets on right cuz theres only one way for the gasket to sit properly. but my oil has been leaking in the front right corner in the sump area. thats where it starts each time i do this. the gasket is squeezed out a little in that corner, should i loosen it then retighten it till its about to start squeezing out. By the way its a B16A block. i take it it should already have a perfect seal and it doesnt need time?

Are you sure the oil pan gasket is leaking & not your rear main seal ?

Is your motor in bad condition ? I.e. blowby causing crankcase pressure causing the leak ?

Are you starting in the middle and woring your way out in a x pattern ? Are you going in 2 tq stages ?

I would maybe consider trying some rtv sealant or hondabond if it comes down to it.

Good Luck.

no does not need time. If after doing your oil pan you have oil around the seal did you clean it off and check it again after having the car run for a little bit? Doesn't take a rocket scientist to replace a oil pan gasket.

o maybe some. haha. anyways, how bad is the leak? Is the leak under your timing cover or timing cover side? That is a comon spot also your rear main seal another one is the transmission seal on the shift linkage that most people overlook although I doubt that would be were its coming from. Maybe take a picture of your problem. We can see your work and tell you whats wrong.
