Is it a narrowband guess-o-meter or wideband?

Try hooking it up directly to the O2 sensor (white wire).

Is is a guess-o-narobando meter. Very accurate in between 14.1 and 15.5:1 AF. Outside of that, I guess your ride is about to BLOW!!!!

eh...I guess I will answer your question....nothing is wrong with your gauge except that is doesn't work very well and is more for a cool flashy display. If you did say get the PLX M250, you could use the auto meter gauge and wire it to it and the gauge would read accurately.

^^^ This is what I run on my setup, the converter cost like $30, the PLX is a bit more but worth every penny, if you like to know if your motor is on the edge of blowing up from running to lean or you are washing your cylinder walls clear of oil from running to rich.. your choice
