Default shifter prob............?

my car (96 dx hatch) had an aftermarket short shifter in it when i bought it. a little while ago the bolt that holds the shifter to the shifter linkage FELL out! I need to know what is in there besides the shifter and linkage? is there any washers or the sleeve that they talk about here: step 15 http://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1007935? mine has none of that right now probobly why it feels like you have to put it exactly in gear. there is no room for error and it feels very metal on metalish when i put it in gear. i just got a new b&m short shifter and energy bushings to replace the garbage in it now so i would really like to do it right! also if you know where to get these parts(cheaper than honda dealership) would be helpful! thanks

dude my best advice to you would be to head to an ace hardware, or lowes (dont go home depot they dont have a good selection) and find a bolt that fits the hole, thats all there is to it, but i wonder how you can shift without that bolt, unless your shifter is so rusted that its stuck in there lol, but thats it just a bolt and a nut, and im sure that from honda it wouldnt be that much.

General principles.......
Look for space between the parts to see if slop/looseness requires a sleeve.
If no slop, no sleeve needed.
Check side to side play. No slop here, no washers needed.
Sometimes washers can be thinned by sanding in order to insert and take out slop.
Put a nylock nut on that bolt and it won't work loose.
Coat all friction points with anti-seize lube.-Bob

i dont think it's purpose is to take up slop. more like a bearing for the pivot point of the shifter. i am fairly sure my stock one had this sleeve, but the aftermarket one had a bearing and now i need that sleeve for a new shifter and i don't have it! thanks for all your help guys

Your best bet would be to get one from the dealer. Ill see if i can find one tomorrow. Or just order one. I can order you one at my cost if you want.
