Lightbulb Differential problem

ok i got a 1992 gsr 1.7 and i got some noises come from under the hood i thought it was the halfshaft but when i engage the clutch the clicking stops so im thinking it could be my differential and the wheel starts to shake a little bit ...but the thing is it will do it for a while then stop...then it might now do it for days or longer then it will come back doing the same clicking ...any idea what it could be

If it happens sitting at idle with the clutch out and car out of gear check your clutches slave cylinder and throwout bearing. I would suspect the throwout bearing but must first ensure nothings wrong with the slave. This assumes you have no leaks in the master cylinder. I've never heard a differential click sitting still engine vibration or not. My experience with hondas is limited but I've had that clicking problem before with nissans and toyotas and when throwout bearings go they start making noise because the ball bearings get worn.

If it does it sitting still or rolling, in neutral or in gear but only with the clutch out and goes away with clutch in, it's not your throwout bearing. Likely an input/main shaft bearing.

I think it's safe to assume it's from the clutch back and not your differential. More than likely the mainshaft bearing. It sounds like you have a new throwout bearing already, inspect it while your on your way to the gearbox just to be on the safe side.

If you have a problem with a bearing inside the tranny, its a cheap fix untill it really goes bad and chews up the gears. The imput bearing is about $50 and to swap it out is about $125. You just have to bring me the tranny. If you want me to pull the tranny too, it gets a bit expensive. ~$300 more. Once the bearing goes bad and chews up the gears, its time to buy a new tranny.
