Default vtec turns on and off

whats up. I got a really weird problem. I got an ls vtec b181 block b16 head. when ever i get on the car vtec turns on and off and the car bucks like a fucking horse . no check engine lights. oil pressure is at 20 psi idle and goes up to 75 psi at full throttle. I got a brand new type r oil pump. motor is freshly built has about 2000 miles on it. Im suspecting that it is the oil control orfices since the vtec solenoid filter is squeaky clean. Its really pissing me off. any suggestions to fixing this problem will be appreciated since im going to tear into this motor on the weekend until i find the cause of this.

thanks
d

im running a pr3 ecu and its not tuned. still even if it is not tune it should not be doing this. Im thinking that it is more of a mechanical problem.

Try this and report back what happened. Accelerate very slowly and shift smoothly, increasing rpms and allowing vtec to kick in. Do it a couple of times and see if all is good. Then do a couple of hard pulls and quick shifts and see if it does it.

and nothing is flashing on you dash panel? No battery/check lights, nothing? Are you sure it is just vtec kicking off and not losing spark or fuel to the engine?

yes it is just vtec turning off. If it was fuel or spark the car would sound like if it was hitting the rev limiter. I can feel my vtec turning on and off because when it turns on it pulls hard and when it turns off it drags...feels like a normal ls.

Hate to see you have to get into the motor. When it was rebuilt, did the oil control orifice on the block get a new o-ring? Also, I'm assuming you are not low on oil if you pressure is fine.
Also, I wouldn't tear anything down without trying a new/different solenoid and pressure switch. Sometimes problems don't produce a code. Also check wiring to switch. If this is a recent conversion to vtec, was it working OK and then stop or has it been like that from the get-go?
