Default new '05 civic lx, need cheap upgrade ideas

I just got an '05 civic lx, manual of course, and I want to know what simple, cheap upgrades I can put on. I know the typical air intake and exhaust, but which ones are good deals? I want a quiet car with as much torque as possible without spending thousands on a turbo or something. I'm looking at a B&M short shifter, and a K&N air filter(don't know whether to make my own intake piping and use just the air filter or to buy the whole intake system). I am a beginner so it might take some explaining. Thanks.

It's an LX. It doesn't matter what you put on there. You're not going to make torque. I would just soak up the good gas milege until you're ready to put thousands into it to get the torque you want.

Me ... being the suspension nut I am ... I suggest that. It's an 05. Bushings are still in great shape. Tie rods are as well. The wheel bearings must still be clean. I'd throw some nice coilovers on there and some sway bars. Make it fun to drive. You dont need all out speed to enjoy the ride of the vehicle.
