Default Tech Shooting/Ideas Needed ~ d16z6

I have a 94 Civic EX Coupe with a stock (I can't believe its virgin myself because I own it) d16z6

When I bought the Civic it was overheating. I made a thread on how that problem was solved.

Current situation:

The new spark plugs were only put in about 1.5 months ago and all 4 spark plugs are showing corrosion on the thread.

Now if a headgasket is going would you see all 4 spark plugs show this sign or maybe 2 out of 4.

Any ideas on should I do a headgasket to solve the problem

or

there may be another issue that is causing my problem that needs to be resolved as well.

Also what is interesting the amount of coolant that I am having to add to the system for the unknown loss/leak has been lessening.

The oil seems to be fine with no indication of coolant in it.

thanks ~ angela

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

very small amount of very tiny intermittant bubbles were found after we burped the coolant system ... the over heating had stopped after we burped the system.

jayson yep its my black coupe

the car has about 181k miles on it now from the 176k it started with.

i have replaced the thermostat, vtec solenoid gaskets, o ring distributer seal, new spark plugs, new oem wires, oil change, changed the tranny fluid, re did the brakes, replaced the right drivers side bearing, added hid's (thanks Iceman1), new rims, new tires (when it arrived it had a radial seperated from the tire) and had outkasted24 slam it

my daily d is my weekend fix it car

Is there corrosion on the threads or the tip? If your burning coolant, you can sometimes see a greenish tint on the spark plug tip(not the electrode).
How is your radiator cap? If its not sealing, your system loses pressure and it will evaporate causing a mysterious vanishing act...

Does it smoke at all under WOT or heavy loads/high rpm?
A leakdown test may be necessary for headgasket diagnosis. Good luck!

P.S. I have to say I dont like your threads title. Dont shoot techs! were just trying to help!

Angela,

Are you sure its corrosion ? Can you take pics of the plugs ?
Did you use the proper lube on the plugs before installing them ?

don't shoot the techs funny

my suspision is the cooling problem is the reason this car was sold

when i replaced the thermastat it didn't look old, the gasket didn't look dried out

the radiator is from what we can tell aftermarket and David also thought of changing the cap. Jeff aka Outkasted24 had one because I could not find one that fit.

Now with that radiator cap the resivoir will still empty but takes a lot more time in order to do so.

I don't really get on it much but I don't remember it seeing it smoke.

to be honest John V I didn't know you had to put lube on a spark plug ... I never did with my hatch and they come in and out just fine.

though after looking at the plugs David put lube on them before putting them back in

when i get some time next week (cause this week is just too much already) i'll repull the spark plugs (carefully) and look to see if there is a greenish tint on them. in fact they were getting a pretty good burn across all 4.

from what I remember there was not and the corrosion was only on the thread.

i'll also see about a leakdown test

you just never know how the car was driven before you and from what i can tell they sucked at putting the car into 3rd and 4th gear because if i don't place it just right, it grinds
