The limitation is the maxiumum port volumetric flow rate compared between the vtec heads and the non-vtec. worked non vtec heads will not flow as well as worked vtec heads ever. Fact. You can run all the boost in the world but if you aren't flowing it through the head it will be inefficient. The ls rocker arms are also alot more unstable at high rpms than a shaft mounted rocker in a vtec head. Try running a non vtec head to 10 grand a couple times and see what happens.

i personally took ronins worked jrsc'ed ls to just over 9k quite a few times(sorry scott, it was an accident ) with no problems. built and balanced bottom end with a full crower valvetrain tuned by john at ss back in the day. it was his daily driver and never had any issues up to the day he sold it.

i have to agree...a vtec head is always gunna flow better stock then the ls head....and is gunna put out better numbers...if you put a b16 head on there...and keep the compression numbers down of course because smaller combustion chambers=higher compression...then turbo it and youll like it alot better then the ls head turbo setup im sure
