Default A little DIY cam seal install......

I did this on Honda-tech and thought I should post it here too. Maybe it can help out some of the new guys.

I am not sure if this has been done on here, but I figured I'll post up some pics just in case. This will apply for pretty much any B's (LS,GSR,SI) and will be using a aluminum seal.

First you will remove the v-cover.

here is the culprit!!! damn oil leaks.

next remove the cam cap. I start in the center and work my way out. You may not have to do that but just to be safe.

Once that is off remove the 2 6mm bolts on the end caps, and pull out the seal.

ewwww

Clean off the area where the new cap will go. Get some Honda bond (if you have it) or the regular gray sealant will work to, like I am using.

Now place the new seal where the old one was.

Put the cam caps back on and toque them down.
6mm 7 foot pounds
8mm 19 foot pounds.
I again put the cam caps on starting from the center and working my way out.

Put the v-cover back on and bolt it down. Then start it to check for leaks. Your done, you should be leak free for way longer then if you had put another rubber one on.

I hope this helps someone.

good info. when i did mine a while back i just took the one off to replace the seal, but too be safe it can be done your way. more work but be safer than sorry. also while there you might as well replace the v-tec solenoid gasket. just did mine not too long ago and it is $20.00 from honda, get it for the 2000 civic si. also can eliminate other leak factors such as the dizzy seal if you choose, but some will say if it is not broke do not fix it. anyway good info.

I did change the V-tec seal after the fact. I found out it was leaking there too.

The last pic was before I cleaned it off. It does not have any leaks. This is just to help the new guys so if you don't really have any thing helpfull to say then don't post.
Thanks

Thanks
youve been on TR long enough that you should realize by now that there are tons of people that post on here.....but only VERY VERY FEW have anything helpfull to say....i dont understand the concept of one person trying to help people but then everyone wants to flame him for it.... maybe you just have to be a "self perclaimed(sp?) know-it-all" to understand why they are dicks....

i thought the write-up was a good idea and the pictures were very help-ful in understanding the instructions. keep up the good work! btw rep for you!
