How do I know when it is time to replace this? My car is at the 80k mark and I dont know if the previous owner changed it. If I need it changed how much am I looking at $$$ in labor....

 

change it....you should change it at 60k, most owners before probably didn't do it.


If you have a dealer do it your probably looking at $500 or so...if you get one of us on here that know what we are doing ...well you might have to check with us

 

Just make sure you take it to someone who knows what there doing and doesn't claim to only because your paying them to do it.

If I were you I would go ahead and replace the belts to. Also and seals like the crank seal, cam seal or seals, tube seals, etc. . If you want. I would. Then you know that your shit is going to not leak(now) or in the future. If its never been done before on that car and with it being a 00 si I would go ahead and replace them if your going to do a timing belt i mean it is six years old.

 

I'd replace the belt, water pump and tensioner pulley and spring if I were you. On cam and crank seals my preference is not to replace them if they are not leaking. Nothing worse than replacing a seal that wasn't leaking only to find out after you start the car up that you pinched the seal and have to do it over again. normal charge for a timing belt/ water pump should be $150 to $200.
