Default Few odd problems, lol

First of all, my speedo just stopped working one day outta nowhere, I've tried 2 VSS's and I've even rewired a brand new VSS plug onto it, and it still doesn't work, with the first one nothing at all happens and it throws a code 17 (vss), the second one the odometer moves but not the speedo, and I get no code. It worked fine until one day I was driving, the speedo went crazy, then died.. that was the last of it..

Another thing, my heater is acting weird, it'll be ice cold until I romp on the car, then it warms up, but when I stop the heat gets cold again, romp on it again and itll be hot for the rest of the time it's being driven. odd?

Anyone have an answer for either question?

Sounds like your cluster is bad. If the odometer is working then the cluster is receiving a signal from the VSS. The cluster is not interpreting the signal for the speedo needle to work but it does for the odometer...Id try a new cluster.

The heater problem sounds like your thermostat. Does your temp guage fluctuate when you get on it and match the heater temp output? If the thermostat is stuck open, the coolant will not get warm enough because its is circulating through the system too quickly. As you get on it, more load, the engine combustion temps will rise and the coolant will warm up a bit...

CeeJay and troy, no and no

Pyro - I'll look into another cluster tomorrow but I don't see how it could just go out like that, outta nowhere.. odd, also the thermostat is good but I've got a spoon 180 deg. thermo that I've been wanting to put in for awhile, might as well toss that in tomorrow since I'm off work..

Your t-stat/temp gauge needs some updating. A bad t-stat can be tested.

I now monitor the REAL temp of my car with a temp gauge. I got another thermostat housing from the boneyard, with one more "port" than the one I had.
In that port, I put in the proper threaded brass adapter for a mechanical gauge.
Now I can actually tell what the temp is. I don't mind showing this "how-to" to others.-Bob

Wow, fixed the speedo problem in 2 minutes, tore apart the harness where it was rewired from the previous owner, and he didn't soder the 3 wires, one of them wasn't connected. working fine now.. wo0t

As for the thermostat, I'm about to go change it, gotta let her cool off first, no more burns on my arms from this damn car
