Line up the white mark with the pointer on the timing belt cover. This is piston #1 TDC.
Then line the cam up so "up" faces up. Slip the belt on, tighten the tensioner and spin it a couple times. You will probably need to readjust the tensioner to get all the belt slack out...

a method that also works and will tell you which is the right mark is... take out the # cylinder spark plug then get a real long screw driver and put it in siting on top of the
piston turn the crank till that screw driver sticks out of the hole its highes point...then thats definitley top dead center.

nik is right, its the white notch...

so is integraman, also a good technique (esp. if you dont have an OEM crank pulley for some weird reason)

jnj does seem to understand the purpose of an online tech forum.

good luck.

the crank pully has an arrow that needs to be lined up to a mark on the pully its self, then the top has to be aligned with the cam gear's up mark and the two side marks on the gear making a sloping to the the left just so its uneven with the block. its kinda hard to explain. Make sure you rotate the motor twice -BY HAND- Before turning it on to make sure your not off by any teeth
