Default b18 block type r crank

Ok im looking to build a motor but can I use a type r crank in a b18 block(LS 99) and then put a b16 head on it would this raise the compression. Im looking to go turbo so Im not trying to raise the compression would my stroke be longer? Is this a good or bad set up for a turbo. May use stock rods and pistons or may upgrade, lmk what you guys think.

no the crank will not work with your stock rods, you will need typeR/gsr rods

Like he said, you need to match the rods to the crank or the engines geometry will be wacky. The B16 head will raise your compression slightly. If your gonna build it, why not build the bottom end first so you wont have to do a teardown in the future. It would suck to have to limit your boost cuz your stock internals cant hold up.
A vtec head will make more power than a nonvtec one in both N/A and turbo setups. Bigger and lighter valves, bigger cams(vtec),better ports all help airflow and thats what makes power.
If you can get a vtec head, do it...
Stock LS/B16's have made well into the 300whp with good tuning. If you think you may need or want more, BUILD IT

U would actual want to use the Ls crank instead of the Type R, for the 89mm stroke, and like Pyro said, since your building the block, mine as well save up $800, and buy pistons and rods. I would also recommend a block girdle if you dont have one, to make the block more sturdy, its like $140.00 new from Honda, and you need Vtec main bolts, which are like $20.00. With a Vtec head, and forged pistons and rods, 300whp will be easy to hit, and it will be safe. Good Luck!!

To answer you question, you stroke would be shorter with the type R crank. Couple that with the shorter rods of a b18 LS and you end up making very poor compression. Not sure if anyone has ever calculated it, though. Would be interesting to see. Motor like that might be able to take 50 lbs of boost.....LOL

I think the rod journals are different sizes too...Mains are the same though...

rod and main journals are the same. Does use a different rod bearing, however. 2 mm narrower, same as the gsr bearings.

it will work fine if you use gsr/itr rods. the GSR/typer/CTR blocks have the same deck height as the LS/b20. the rotating assemblys are interchangable.
