Default cat removal help

well i had a stupid issue that i finally traced to a clogged cat(long story).
the only problem is, i cant get the damn thing off to unblock it. i busted a 3/8" craftsman ratchet trying.
anyhow, a friend told me to use a cutting torch to heat up the nut and then to try it after it has cooled a little bit. the only problem is i dont have a cutting torch. do you think a regular blowtorch will heat it enough to remove it and if so, will the heatshield keep the bottom of the car safe while im working on the top nut?

thanks in advance!

ive used a angle die grinder to cut the bolts off in the past works good and a bit faster and safer then tourching it unless you have a cutting tourch.
