Default Can i duplicate my car key...and how

Just a question.. i have a 1997 Acura 3.5 RL. this past weekend my purse was stolen along with my car key & the valet key. And now, somehow, i managed to lose my spare.

I'm pretty sure i'll come across the spares, but i do want to duplicate them. I was given a master key (in red) that's in the glove box. Should I take it to the Acura dealer and get it duplicated? Or can I take it to some place like Home Depot? How much will this cost? I tried looking online but i think I'm computer illiterate!

Thanks!
Allison

I am not familiar with those keys. Does it have any tape of chip in it? or does ist look like a regular key?
If it looks regular, any Home Depot or Walmart can do it for a few bucks.
If it has a chip in it then you will have to go back to Acura
I am sure you can call Acura and ask

Good Luck to you!!

you can go up to your local honda dealership and have them cut one for you. best to have the car or at least the key with you because they will need to take info they need from either one of them.

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

no!!! DO NOT TRY TO USE THAT KEY!!!

your system is a "chipped" type and the red key is used for programming ONLY. this was honda's 1st generation of "imobilizer" systems
you need to get with the acura dealer to make a new key for you and to program it. AFAIK this is only dealer type stuff.

you will probably have to buy a new immobilizer unit ,with the red key system you have to have the red key and 1 original black key to program any new keys if you loose all keys or lose the red key your f'ed the new imobilizer unit comes with a new red key and 1 black key

if it is the same as the 97 preludes, they can make new keys as long as you have the red key.
no red key=new imobilizer unit
