ECU Identification
the only other way to test it is by putting it up in a obd2 teggy, but why buy an obd2 computer, just get a jumper and a chipped p28, obd1 rules, you got a lot of options to tune it, and for your tuning needs hit up Mtber (John Vega) here in the forums, he is good and his prices are very reasonable, check out his website www.Phearable.net
