Default turbo Q's

alright before i start building my turbo motor i wanna learn a little more about turbos in general. like what kinda effect a bigger turbo has on spooling and how to tell a t-3 from a t-28. how the differant sizes of hot and cold side effect it and alotta other stuff. could you guys recommend a good site or book or person or...anything. i have tried searching google but could only find info for dummies. nothing as in depth as im looking for. thanx in advance.

yeah i already know how they work, i just wanna know more detailed info. and how differances between them effect their performance and what kinda turbos are better for what kinda engines...ect. rather than just asking you guys to recommend a turbo for my single cam, i think it would be better if i knew enough to select the turbo on my own. plus you can never have too much knowledge.

cold side-compressor side, the larger the AR obviously the more air and CFM it will move, the only drawback is air will only move so quickly at a given speed and time.

hot side-exhuast turbine, the ARs usually seen are .48, .63, .81 these are just like on the cold side except they depict on how fast exhaust will escape, also directly relating to the size of the housing, they also have stages I, II, III wheels, these by some turbo companies are either "clipped" or angle change sin the blades to allow a little more exhuast flow from a smaller exhaust housing.

general rule, a smaller AR will give great low and mid boost response like say a .48 on a sohcD16, and will be perfect for its power beand and exhuast volume, put that same turbo on a ITR and it will not be able to "breathe" at the higher rpms and kinda choke out power. a .63 would be best suited most of the time for a B series.

I am no turbo god by any means, but from what I understand. when you have a bigger turbo, it takes less PSI to make a certain hp then it would take a smaller.. So if you have a t3 that takes 22psi to make 350 hp, a t4 can do it with say 15 (those are not acurate numbers, just an example) Obv a bigger turbo is going to lag more then a smaller turbo.

what does "ar" mean?

is this true about a bigger turbos making the same power with less psi? this makes no sense to me.

whats the differance between a t-3, t-4, t-28..ect? i think is has somthing to do with the flange right?
