I have an automatic 96 Accord EX *Vtec*.

I've noticed that when my car's in 3rd gear the Revs reach 6k and then drop down to 5k.. then it keeps going up to 6k and switches to 4th. My speedometer shows about 80-85.. drops down to about 75 and then resumes up to 80+...... is there a reason for this? My knowledge about this is very extremely rediculously limited , but could it be that "Government Chip" thing if there is such thing? Or maybe that my car's automatic? My friends all have Civics and there Revs don't do that?

Any help at all with a solution or any info on this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

possibly time for a tune up?...adjust the idle?..mine idles at about 900..is what it should be at, in park...

 

my idle returns to normal after a few seconds.. its just when i start it up... but the real issue is when im driving and the car is in 3rd gear the revs reach 6 and drop down to 5 like if it redlines... then hits 6 again and switches into 4th gear... i wanna know whats causing that to happen.. it jumps from about 85 down to about 75mph n then finally switches into 4th and i hit 100 after that

 

ok so on cold start up thats normal, to rev at about 1500. So is it only when your getting on the gas when it does this?..possible transmission slipping?..from what it sounds like, maybe your tranny is going to crap...but that may not be the case, just a maybe.

 

are you saying that while the tranny is in 3rd and you kit 6k the car slows down and then speeds back up when it gets into 4th? how many miles on the tranny? and have you been driving it hard?

 

no no tranny slipping... if it was i would feel it right?

 

if you where in a senario when your hauling ass, on the throttle, and the tranny is bad enough, and says its in 3rd, and hits redline 6300, it will probly drop down a good 1k in rpms, and then back to that redline then shift to 4th, then drop back down to its normal rpms'. It wont happen in every gear, or everytime, but it happends here and there.

Honda automatic trannys suck, i have one, its slipping here and there, but i dont get on it as much as i use to...usually only slips when the tranny gets hot
