Default What engine to start with for Ls/Vtec

I'm planning on doing ls/vtec sometime in the near future and was wondering what engine to start with i was thinking a b16 since i need to use all components from it, the water pump at what not and the car will be wired for vtec with the b16. Or the Ls cuz its cheaper and i wanna use the tranny from it in hopes of getting better gas mileage on the highway riding at lower rpm's what do you guys think?

ls/vtec would mean you would use an ls bottom end... not a b16 bottom end

i think he needs a swap and then hes gonna turn it into an ls/vtec. if this is the case get a b16 swap, and when you got all the stuff swap out the short block. and if you want good gas milage and nice short vtec gears, just add an ls 5th gear to the b16 tranny, i think you will be happy with it. also this way you dont fall out of vtec...til 5th anyway, and still get good highway miles.

i wish someone made a 5th gear that is longer than the ls, but thats just me, i like to cruise at 85+.

good luck

I would start out with a b16....check www.hmotorsonline.com , you can get a complete swap for under 2500$. I say this becuase when ording from them , you get , Motor , tranny , ecu , dizzy etc. and they can get you everything thing you need for your application , and for 300$ more you can get a lsd tranny...not to mention you get the bitchin' gears of the b16 trannies. And they are all guarnenteed.

Also , when building a LS/Vtec , i would suggest , buying all NEW OEM , parts, ( oil pump , water pump , timing belt etc. ) and not reusing parts. Also you might want to invest in some arp rod bolts , and arp head bolts.

and yes , i wouldnt recommed using OEM Ls pistions....go w/ pr3's/p30's/itr's or ctr's...and all new oem bearings.

There are ton's of topics on here as well as on www.honda-tech.com Any information you need jsut do a search on either of the two...you WILL find results.

Good luck with the build.

also here is a good article on ls vtec build up. http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/lsvtec/lsvtec.php

Rep points please
