Question undercarriage question

I have a 2000 accord and the plastic in the front of the car underneath the engine is coming off. Do I necessarly need that or can I take that off? I know of course it is there for a reason. Is it there to protect the engine from water and rocks? Its looks bad because you can see it from the front of the car. Just want some input to see what I should do. Thanks, Dan

well, If you like your motor to be kept clean I would leave it on, It wont hurt if you take it off, but rain and mud/dirt will be more able to enter the engine bay making things dirty really quick, To some thats not a big deal. For me it is, I take pride in my motor and the way it looks, and would hate to pop the hood to show someone my motor and have it coverd in dirt and such, I took mine off a while ago and was going down a dirt road(very slow) it had rained and when I got home the engine was Sooooo muddy, took me like 2hrs to clean it up, thats my opinion, If you dont care, rip it off, just my .02 cents

I took mine off to save me time working on the car.
Possibly it allows some of the heat to escape under the car, too.-Bob
