Default Custom roll cage, Need input

Well its come down to having to install a 8-point cage in the coupe, I built the car to be street drivin, but to also compete in the turbo4 class. last time at the track I was banned until I install the needed safty parts(cage, scatter shield, fire suite), I have the suite and the shield and am about to invest in a cage. I found a shop that sells all the bars and main hoop section for 169+50 for shipping. The one issue so far is that the cage is for a 98coupe, I think the body of the 98-99 are pretty much the same, if not I am capable of modding the cage to fit just right, anyone know if there are any noticable diffrences between the two?? Me and my welder will be welding in the cage and installing it sometime next week, latest the weeks after next, My question is, has anyone had any experience doing this in a 99 coupe?? I have full interior and really would like to keep it that way, I know that there will be some things that must go for fittament reasons, but if anyone has done this B4 any advice would be helpful. I plan on laying a light coat of paint on the bars to make it look a little better, and help with rust build-up. I just dont want to get half way through the install, and come to find out that Im missing something or did something wrong.. This car is my means of getting to work.. Anyone have any advice?? Open to your suggestions and comments

My advise is to print out and read the instructions very carefully. There are some funny things in the nhra book about were the front part of the cage has to meet the chassis in relation to the drivers ankles and stuff like that.

Be careful when welding the top sections and make sure you weld all the way around.

Yea the kit is NHRA&IHRA approved. The only if I have is the fact that it is for a 98. But the more I look at the two(cars) the more they look the same. Thanks for the advice KJ.

Lay some old Uhaul blankets inside the car so no random sparks will burn up your headliner,seats,carpet,etc...Test fit everything, measure twice, cut/weld once

I was told to strip everything out 1st, but I see problems re-installing the headliner after I install the cage. I will be taking out anythingthat can be takin out without to much of a hassle. Thanks for the input guys. I know cage installs change from car to car, so thanks for the replies..

Definitely leave everything in the car that you can. You will not be able to get the headliner back in after the cage is installed.

I hope you are tig welding the cage or you will defintely have some problems with sparks. If you are MIG welding pm me and I'll let you in on a little trade secret to doing the upper welds with a mig and not buring the headliner.
