anybody have any ideas for me (1998 civic ex)? the gauge once in a while will jump back in forth for a few seconds but for the most part it just stays at 0. I have replaced the speed sensor pick up in the tranny and had no luck. has anybody had the speedo gauge itself go out? any tips would be helpful. also any of you know of a good junk yard to go to for honda parts? thanks for your time.

 

i had this problem and it was the cluster....i get shit from ace used autoparts in tampa. I-4 exit 3.

when mine died the needle was obviously showing the wrong speed most of the time and it it was always bouncing around even when my speed was constant. clusters can do weird things.

 

2 fixes:

1.With my Accord, I thought the speed sensor cable was plugged well into the
top of the auto trans, and held down with a "C" type clip.

It was just a little too high; was not connecting down in the trans.
When I pulled the cable up, rotated the cable's bump to the side to
about 6 different places, one at a time; it suddenly went in
deeper and worked fine.

2.Once when I had pulled the instrument panel out for cleaning,
and replaced it; the speedo cable plastic clip did not "Snap" into
position on the back of the instrument panel, and allowed the
cable to *pull back out!* of where it plugs into.

Easy fix: snapped it back on= works great.

Check these 2 things I mentioned. Let us know what you found.-Bob

I had good luck with Cophers/LKQ.......about 5 locations around
Tampa Bay.
