Default Why can't fuel pumps be simplified?

In another thread, I read about the complications with programming fuel pumps, and pressure, etc....

A too simple solution?.....
Why can't a person wire in a healthy 12 volt fuel pump to a switch,
plumb in a return fuel line to the gas tank, and eliminate
1.the size of the pump issue and the 2.fuel pressure issue,
and 3.the electronic control issue?

What is it about Honda's, that says a person cannot use
a 12 volt fuel pump/switch/return fuel line?

Thats only on the newer cars... The only car that really has this issue for now is the RSX because they run a returnless system with a voltage regulated pump to control fuel flow (JSimon9633 can tell you all about this) ... Prior to that, all Hondas just ran a normal constant voltage system, with a FPR on the return to regulate pressure, while flow pretty much stayed constant...

that what i did my fuelpump was wired up myself to a switch,i did this so i can turn it off and the car could not be stolen, but see the down fall of this i need a new fuelpump now cause this new one took a crap from being on 12volts all the time it was only 2years old and now it does not work

you are correct!

most of our stock pumps were not meant to be held at 12 volts for long periods of time, thats why they are voltage regulated by the relay and some the ecu.

if this had been a racecar application, there are pumps that are designed to be run on 12 volts or more, and have flow rates for the different amounts of voltage supplied to the pump.

Its not just hondas. Back in 98' when i had a boosted neon, it had a non-return setup. We did what you mentioned, and we plumbed the return into the fuel fill line (just below gas cap) and had no troubles.

Anyone know why honda went to this fuel setup with the K-series? Is there any benefit, i don't get it?

AHHA! Am I glad to learn this!

So an antitheft device should be an on/off
switch in the wire that sends voltage to the pump;

INSTEAD OF:
a switch that sends 12volts to the pump constantly

This bit of info might have saved the other poster from
killing his fuel pump.............
