I have seen the timing belts that are claimed to be better than oem, and stretch less in the higher rpm range. my question is, are these belts really any better than the oem. this is for a b16 running 11psi, built internals, stock head. thanks.

+1, I think that's one area of Honda that would be hard to over-engineer. I think they took high rpm's into consideration. As long as you have some studs in that head (ARP) you shouldn't have to worry about the timing belt. Although, if you do have issues with vibration later on with more power, you can get yourself a harmonic damper (fluidampr).

I wish they had one for a D series

 

thanks guys, I gues those "upgraded" belts are for the more poorly engineered domestics? I'll be staying less than 300hp, and I am going to set my rev limiter to 8k. I just wanted to make sure so that my timing would be as exact as possible. I will be running hondata, and yes I intend on arp studs in the head and I will probably use then for the connecting rods and bearing caps as well.

 

Use them in the rods if they are stock, if not they already have them most likely. Do not stud or change the girdle bolts, OEM only, ARP doesn't have a better one out.

 

I think that the differnce in the say toda timing belts which cost I think more the $180 shipped. Are made of some sorta kevlar material which makes stronger? Iam not 100%percent on this.

no shit the stock girdle bolts hold as well as arp?

I will be using crower rods and cp pistons. I am also getting with chavez motorsports when I do the build ( hopefully within the next month, I have cash just no time) so that I get what's needed, they seem really good at letting you know if you don't need to buy something or if it is a must have.

 

I use Oem and change it often. I turn 9,500rpms and make good power and have never had a problem.
