b-series tranny which one? flywheel weight
I am going to be swapping the b16 that is in my 88 crx into my 93 civic hb. ( after a rebuild). the b16 currently has an a1 cable tranny. the hb is a hydro tranny, so the hydro parts are on the car. I don't really like the a1 tranny cause the gears are made for low end strictly. at 80 on the highway in 5th i'm sitting at about 4k rpms. this is a daily driver that will have a jrsc running 11psi. I would like to have decent low end torque output from the tranny but still have good highway gearing for economy ( seeing as how I put over 100 miles a day on it). Which tranny would be best for this? y1, s1, ys1??? and what year and model do they come from? I would prefer to not have to frankenstein the clutch/flywheel, meaning a flywheel from one year vehicle and the pressure plate and clutch from another.
does anyone know what the difference between the y1,s1,ys1,a1 tranny's is, besides the gearing. alot of times the clutch kits specify the year and model only, but this tranny is from the xsi that is jdm and not available in the u.s. so getting parts is a pain sometimes cause they are not always an exact fit.
yes I will be upgrading the clutch, probably the exedy stage 2. I want to get a lighter flywheel as well....but how light is good. I know I don't want to go too light, but how light is too light? and who makes goo flywheels?
thanks for the help

Stick with the B16 tranny - if you really want highway cruising, then shove an LS 5th in there. 4K RPM on the highway isn't that bad dude - You have 8000rpm to work with.
A 9lbs. flywheel is plenty light enough. Don't go any lighter.

hey cronic long time no see. will the a1 tranny fit an lsd in it if I want to later? which adapter should I use to work the cable tranny in the hydro car? I know I have 8k to work with but I am greedy. If I don't need to get a new tranny and the adapter is cheap enough I was thinking of opening up the tranny and replacing the syncro's the 2nd gear is off a little, but I am not sure if it is the tranny or the 2 inch (literally) throw on the stick to go from 1st to 2nd. while I'm in it I may just swap out the 5th gear and be done with it. on the crx It still got 38mpg hwy, but my civic gets 38mpg with hwy and city combined. ( I know the civic is d-series = economy) but the ability to get high 30's and still have a quick street car is that much sweeter.
the stock gears (1st-4th) and ls 5th should handle the 250hp (approx) that I will be throwing at them correct? it seemed to with the turbo on it but not sure how long it will last.
thanks for the info.

yeah its an a1, i've checked the stamp several times when I first got it and the only info I could find was that it came on the xsi motor. http://www.phearable.net/tech/wiring/trannyspecs.html the 90-93 ls/rs/gs came with the ys1.
If I put in the ls 5th do I need the syncro for the ls 5th or will the stock one work?

the ys1 only comes on 92-93 integras not 90-91 the a1 was never really coded cause it was mainly only on 90 usdm integras but some 91 had them ys1 also comes on 92-93 integra gsr 1.7 but it has very short gears

so when I go for the clutch and flywheel, I need the flywheel and pressure plate for a b16 (94 delsol vtec, 99-00 civic si) and the clutch plate for a 90 ls?
would It be easier to just get a y1 (97-98 type r) tranny? It already has lsd and is a hydro so no adapter would be needed. and since it is a b-series tranny it should bolt right up to the b16 block.

what slow down y1 is cable typeR's are hydro the y1 is a jdm crx b16 tranny...as for you problem all bseries flywheels/pressureplates are the same from any 94/01integra/94 96delsol s/99-00civic si......but if your useing that tranny and only want a stock kit go to autozone and order a flywheel and clutch kit for a 90 integra the fly wheel is 54bucks new WITHCORE..the kit is 193......BUT if you pressure plate is good scruff it up and use it then only buy a 90 clutch disc 48bucksWITH core 59without....you will be very happy with the catch on those disc's

I will be needing more than the stock kit, but it is easier and sometimes cheaper to get the kit instead of buying individual pieces. I want a hydro tranny, if I can find one at a decent price. the adapters to make a cable work in a hydro car is like $200, so I figure if I can get the hydro with lsd for about $400, then sell the a1 for $200, I just spent the same as the adapter kit would cost, plus I got lsd.
