Angry I hate carburetors.

I'm buying an 85' Honda Accord LX as a beater, and this beast is carbed up. Beneath the vaccum line spaghetti, lays an issue. On initial startup, it idles super high anywhere from 2k-3k rpms. But once it warms up, as soon I pull it out of gear, it just stalls out on me. The owner seems to think its the cam timing, since he had some mechanic put a new timing belt on it, and this problem started happening after that. I think it has something to do with the carburetor, hence the title.

Just wondering if anyone here knows about these crazy carburetor things, and or what might be causing this problem.

possibly caused by cam timing but also possibly caused by carb base plate(insulator).

I really don't think its the cam timing though, It runs way to smooth, I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the carb, though aparently it hasn't been touched. I just want to get some kind of a clue about what it could be, I don't want to be pouring alot of money into this thing.

And, I'm not swapping a motor into a beater. I have my nissan for that.
