I hear ya, but i guess if you think about it, he would have to save up to build the block after the kit anyway, and might need new fuel/turbo components. So for a non-mechanic its probably quite similar price wise.
I can understand ya not wanting to let that beauty go. I've never been in a funner car than dave's turbo civic. Nothing like putting down 300-400whp and weighing in at 2700- lbs.

From what i've heard, your going to spend practically the same amount of money doing the turbo setup and doing it right (parts/install/tuning) as the swap considering you can't do it all yourself. If you don't have the $$$ don't try to cut corners, you will regret it i'm sure and end up paying way more than you have to fix your errors.
If you are simply looking for alittle boost in hp and don't have the money to do the swap or turbo, why not look into a nitrous kit. Maybe intake/headers/exhaust/ and a nitrous setup. Do some research on the kits available for your car, its not nearly as dangerous as you might think it is. Many kits run off of computers nowadays and will shut down automatically to avoid bad conditions. Best of luck.

If you're set on getting boosted, I wouldn't go much larger than a GT25 or 7psi of boost untill you can either get some money or trade in your car. Here's a decent one so far for under $3grand which is quite a shade different than what D-series kits were going for 3 years ago. And they've come a long way in design. http://superstreetonline.com/plugged...9_d17turbokit/

Also, be sure to stop into www.turbod16.com if the site comes back up, looks like it's down.
There are a few people on there with the d17 block.

Default TSI kit

Get the TSI turbo kit,,
Its a good lil small turbo kit that will get you where you want.
I have a T25BB, that came with that kit.
YOu're going to need a shit load of FUEL upgrades though, I can tell you right now. So if you aint willin on spendin some money, I would'nt recomended!
You gotta remember our cars are RETURN LESS. You can probably just run TYPE-S injectors, and E-manage with no return line. But, I would say its safer if you did a RETURN.
We have a stock FPR in the tank, that you will want to take off, slap a 255 walbro, and an external FPR, that regulates after a modified rail.(that has a return line going back to your tank)
thats what I have, and its running strait...
If you ride to GANDY or you've been around racing spots here in Tampa,
you've probably already seen my ride.
Silver 7th gen, black Graphics, body kit,WING,Turbo..

Do some research and you'll see why. Good luck.

I dont knw about all that!..
I mean i knw our cars, are economy cars, but there not WEAK engines..
I mean it may not seem a lot to you... But at 8.5 psi's <<<<stock internals
my D17 hit 197WHP.

That's defently enough, for Daily driving, and spankin SOME @$$ in the streets.

for the amount spent. the turbo will give you more HP & TQ than a type-s swap. 197whp is not were you will be with a stock type-s swap. more like 170-180whp. 8.5psi is very safe.

Exactly,
for a TYPE-S swap,
1st. you will be spending a shit load of money for custom things that need to be done, in order to fit that engine in your car. 2nd when you do get it..
You aint going to be suprised, you probably wont even feel the difference..
Just go my way, and get a turbo.
Trust me D17 are real STrong engines,
just read above. I've hit 197whp on 8.5 psi's
