pipes too close....heatwrap?
So my DP is very very close to my up pipe to my turbo, about 1 inch from touching...my question is......what would be the best way to keep that IC pipe from getting so damn hot? heatwrap? if so, should i wrap the DP or the up pipe? or both? Does heatwrap really corrode(sp) the pipes? thx

you wrap the down pipe...it keeps heat from excaping....i still don't think you need it though.

i would wrap both, i did. the first time i used it was on a headder. and when i could grab the headder with my bare hand after an hour of driveing. i fell in love with the shit. i wrapped my downpipe, and intercooler piping all the way to the throttle body. only because it comes in such large rolls. why not
wouldn't the heat that travels through the metal make it stay hot longer due to the insulation of the heat wrap? on the up pipe.... unless of course the entire thing was wrapped...but that would take forever and be costly.

one roll of 1inch will do the whole thing, and if the intercooler is doing a good job, then it should "insulate" the up pipe from being heatsoaked by underhood temps.........ya know?
I wrapped my downpipe, dumptube, and upper charge pipe all the way to the throttle body and my water temps stayed below 190 on normal cruising, and I was getting 70-75 degree intake temps under boost.... I love heat wrap...

if your dp was thermal coated would wrap still be needed? would it help more even if it isn't needed?

thermal coating is great dont get me wrong, but drive like an hour and reach up and grab that bastard........ouchy.
i would wrap anything,
true tho, it will cause fade on ceramic coating, and will cause premature pipe rusting, but seriously would you be so mad if your downpipe lasted 1 month less, than it was expected too?? no

i was wondering earlier if for cheaper manifolds that are prone to cracking, if heatwrap would help them not crack, or just worsen the problem.
any thoughts on that?
