i wanted to know how much it is safe to mill a 95 gsr head. also what is the compression after a thorough shave job like that. pm me if you got a link to a good site about this.
thanks,

with material removal in the thousands you can model the volume removed by milling as a small cylinder.

bore^2/4*(amount milled)*3.1416 this works pretty good for b16a heads and other round chamber heads it is somewhat less accurate for gsr heads but still good enough.

Tell me what compression you want to achieve and I'll tell you how much to mill. BTW as mentioned earlier for every .012" milled you retard the cams 1 degree each.

so if i have 0.036 milled im looking at just over 11:1? and i have to advance my cam gears, right? 1 degree for every .012" but i think when you bring the cams closer to the block you are retarding timing, so you gotta advance the gears, right? im pretty novice at this so im just tryin to get some advice.

I wouldn't take 0.036 off a vtec head.

If I were you I'd have the head milled 0.020 and remove the middle layer from the head gasket. This will bring you to about 10.6:1 compression. You can never get back the material you mill and if your setup changes in the future a head that is milled 0.036 might be worthless as it moves your valves closer to the pistons and decreases your chances of having acceptable clearances if you step up to a bigger set of cams.

Another option is to mill 0.010" and run a factory one layer gaket. This would put your comp up to about10.8:1. This way if you ever upped the comp with pistons in the future and wanted to run some decent cams you just throw a full 3 layer gasket in and the head only has 0.010 removed which won't be much of a concern with big cams as long as everything is clay checked. Running a one layer gasket will increase your chances of blowing the gasket though and there are special precautions to be observed when installing one.

well i planned on using a bigger cam, but definately something streetable; after all for the most part i'll be sitting in traffic. how about if i did your first idea where i mill 0.020 and remove the middle area of the headgasket, with a bigger set of cams? would i be cool driving 4 mph on us19 in rushhour?

Yeah, let me know what cams you are planning on running and I'll let you know how I'd go about it. You can pm me if you don't want anyone knowing your setup.

How 'bout on a stock JDM b16a w/ pop-ups, head shaved 0.050 with stock cams. Is it a must to have adj. cam gears? And if so what settings should I put intake and exhaust to? Or is it ok to run TDC on stock gears safely? What do you guys recommend?

You should never remove more than .030" from a dohc vtec head. And yes you should have cam gears or you have just retarded your cams 4 degrees each and negated any power increase you might have gotten from the compression increase.
