Slipping out of 5th

Wow now I have another thing to add to my long list of shit going wrong. I just had a new clutch put in less than a month ago with my rebuilt motor and now the car is slipping out of 5th. I can shift into 5th with no problem and I'll be cruising along for 2-4 miles and for no reason it slips out of 5th and into neutral. Is this a bad alignment on the clutch/pressureplate/flywheel or what?

Replace transmission. Problem solved.

TRD_Tc 01-22-2005 07:44 AM

are you sure its the tranny???? its only got 65,000 miles on it and I almost never use 5th.

sounds like bad engine mounts to me, or a bad tranny. those are the only two options. imo.

well i would recommend spending 30 dollars on some es engine torque mounts if there is a possibility of it being bad mounts....if not look into a rebuild. neal does it pretty cheap.

that may be where i am heading as something is wrong with my clutch / tranny

ding ding ding!!! you get the prize... this is the correct answer... BUT, something to try is try putting some GM syncro mesh in there and see how she runs... you might be surprised how much that shit can do for a tranny...

if none of your gears are griding then your really low on MTF..

get some honda MTF in there and see if that solves your problem

check for a leak somewhere also, around the axle seal most likely

TRD_Tc 01-23-2005 01:21 PM

I'll check my MTF when I get my car back tommorrow.....I bet that's what it is.
