are 88 and 89 trannys differnent than a 90 and 91

Default are 88 and 89 trannys differnent than a 90 and 91

i have a 90 si tranny and i want to no if a 88 or 89 si tranny will fix on it or not

It's been too long but I think this is right:
'88 by itself
'89-91 are same.

I think only the clutch needs to be changed if you have the different years.

the 88si tranny is a bastard year, the spline count is different and I think the shaft is a thicker diameter ( not sure on the thickness part) I remember doing my clutch when I first got mine and the alignment tool for an 89 needed a few layers of duct tape to make it thick enough to fit the clutch plate, but I think the tip end where the bearing sits is the same. if so then just get the clutch plat to match the tranny and pressure plat to match the engine (the plates may be the same though)
